In today’s world, with mass media, the world has become less localized but is still very diverse.

We live in a world that has always been very diverse in terms of adaptations to both our physical and social environments. These diversities have existed over many years of human evolution with limited conflict. ( ④ ) Although these conflicts were often severe, they were highly localized. 계속적용법에 대한 이해

영어 문법 용어중에 가장 싫어하는 표현 중에 하나는 계속적 용법이다. 이건 뭐 이해하기도 , 딱 와닫지 않고. 정확이 구별이 되는것도 아니고, 계속적 용법을 정확히 이해 하고 사용하는 사람은 별고 없을 것이다. 또한 학생들이 공부하기에도 쓸데없이 시간 낭비 하는것 같다.

계속적 용법은 문장의 흐름을 중심으로 덧붙이는 설명이다 라는 말이다.

한마디로 문법 설명의 일관성이 없다. 설명이 계속된다는 것이다( 해석 또한 뒤로 오지말고 계속 해석해라)

문장에서 설명이 계속된다고 , 계속적 용법이라고 한다. ....... 중딩들이 이해를 하겠냐고 ,,, 할 수도 있지

My father, who is a doctor, loves hiking.

아빠인데 닥터이고 하이킹 사랑한다. 계속적 용법( 맞는 해석)

닥터인 아빠가 하이킹을 사랑한다.. 한정적 용법

이 미묘한 의미가 뭔 차이이가 있냐고 , 해석을 통해 설명하니 이런 문제가 생긴다.

영어 문법(기능중심)으로 설명해 보자

restrictive Relative Clause 제한적 관계사절

대상을 한정하는 역할. 생략하면 문장의 의미가 흐려짐(정확성이 떨어짐)

that을 사용가능

My brother who lives in London is coming to visit.

Non-restrictive Relative Clause 비제한적 관계사절

정보를 보충하는 역할. 생략해서 문장이 성립하기때문에 보어는 아님

My brother, who lives in London, is coming to visit.

비제한적 관계대명사에 that을 사용할 수없다 (이유는 수업시간에 ㅋㅋㅋ)

즉 구조상으로 생략이 가능해도 되냐, 생략 하면 의미가 구체적이지 않게 되는냐의 차이다

구조을 보면 관계대명사 절이 삽입되있는 것이다. 차라리 삽입절로 공부하는 것이 구조상 편하다. 관계사절의 삽입 으로 하자

아래와 같은 구조는 계속적 용법으로 공부해도 된다. (여전히 삽입절)( , 컴마와 의문사로 인해 만들어짐) 설명은 수업시간에

→ He missed the meeting, which caused a delay.

→ She yelled at him, which upset everyone.

→ The team won again, which was expected.

→ 모두 앞 문장 내용 전체를 받아 설명하는 계속적 용법의 전형이다 (앞문장을 보충할수 있다 )

여전히 that을 사용할 수가 없다.

전치사구: 문장 전체의 맥락(‘디자인 분야에서’)을 제공하는 부사

- 삽입구 (보충 설명): 삽입은 , , 로 표시 한다
  ‘In design’을 구체화하고 강조하는 역할. 문장 주어는 아니고, 맥락을 덧붙이는 보충 설명입니다.
- design ㅡ the set 명사 명사 이므로 동격으로 봐도 된다

multiple iterations of the design 주어 이다.

앞에 명사와 병렬 관계라고 착각하지 말아야 한다. 두단어가 병렬이면 접속사을 써야 한다.

독립적이고 동등한 형용사는 , 만 써동 된다. 뒤에 명사가 있어서 구별가능.

It was a long, difficult journey.
= long and difficult journey (가능)
= difficult, long journey (순서 바꿔도 말 됨)
She is a smart, talented student.
= smart and talented student (가능)

삽입과 병렬에 대한 정확한 이해가 필요. 관계대명사에서 삽입을 잘못 배우면 의외로 이런 문장에서 삽입을 모름

삽입구인지 판단하는 방법 4가지

1. 쉼표(,)로 앞뒤가 분리되는가?

삽입구는 보통 쉼표로 양쪽이 감싸져 있다.
이걸 삽입구 신호라고 보면 된다.

예시:

The CEO, despite the criticism, continued with the plan.
→ despite the criticism이 삽입구
→ 없어도 문장이 됨: The CEO continued with the plan.

2. 빼도 문장 구조가 성립하는가?

삽입구는 **문장의 핵심 문장 구조(S + V)**를 방해하지 않는다.
빼고도 문법적으로 완전한 문장이 되어야 한다.

예시: 관계대명사에서 계속적 용법으로 공부안하고 삽입으로 공부하는것이 낫다.

My teacher, who is very kind, helped me.
→ who is very kind는 없어도: My teacher helped me.

, 가 있다고 계속적 용법라고 공부하면 s v , which v o 구문과 구조가 헷갈린다.

3. 보충 설명인가, 문장 필수 성분인가?

삽입구는 문장의 의미에 보충적 정보만 제공한다.
필수 정보면 삽입구 아님!

예시:

The book that I borrowed yesterday is great.
→ 여기서 that I borrowed yesterday는 필수 정보 (한정적 용법)
→ 삽입구 아님 (쉼표 없음)
→ 어떤 책인지 특정해주는 정보니까 핵심 구조에 들어감

4. 다음 표현들이 삽입구일 가능성 높음

전형적인 삽입 표현들:
- in fact
- for example
- of course
- I believe / I think / it seems
- as you know
- such as ~
- especially ~
- however / therefore (등 부사)
